Meet the Band
The core of That ’90s Band has a combined 30 years of experience playing and creating music together. This band wants you to rock out with us and join in the fun of bringing these great alternative rock, grunge and metal songs back to life through live performance!
In 2012, Brian Smith, wanted to put together a cover band to perform popular music from the 1990s. He contacted Jon Lauman, a drummer he had worked with during the early 2000s in the band NVOOLY, about joining this new venture. Jon knew that another NVOOLY alumni, Neil Forker, was working with Chris Trueblood, who together were 2/3 of a garage prog rock band in the early 90s. Given the history of everyone playing together, it was perfect match! Rehearsals began on February 3, 2013. Mike Fultz, whom Jon knew from high school, joined in April 2013, completing the original line-up of the band. The band played their first show on July 30, 2013.
Personal commitments forced Brian to say good-bye to That ’90s Band. He performed his final show as a member of the band on November 15, 2014, but he remains a good friend and has performed with the band occasionally since leaving. He continues to perform in an ’80s cover band called A Brave New Wave and another ‘90s cover band called Star 69.
Matt Janz joined as vocalist in January 2015 and came in confidently. This line-up of That ’90s Band won a contest and on November 7, 2015, they played an opening spot for classic 90’s band, Everclear, during their 20th Anniversary: Sparkle and Fade tour. With Matt singing, the band played many new venues and events in the Indianapolis and surrounding area: The Vogue, Indiana Grand Casino, the Sandbox Reunion at Howard County Healing Field and many more!
In early December 2018, Jon Lauman decided it was time for other musical territories. After careful consideration, Matt Janz decided to leave at the same time due to personal commitments. They played their last show as band members on December 29, 2018. They remain like brothers and may perform with the band occasionally in the future.
Jason Meinerding joined as vocalist in January 2019, and he performed with the band for the first time on February 16, 2019.
